Poster Exhibition
Following the conference we are excited to be hosting an exhibition showcasing work by young artists and designers that engages with the theme of youth activism and resistance. Works will be available to purchase, with all proceeds going to two activist organisations.
Creative people have the ability to document events, provoke discussion and promote the possibility for change with a beauty and aesthetic that excites, interests and engages people. As such, all creatives have the potential to be activists. The exhibition will provide a space for reflection on political issues and recent events and to consider the future directions for young people’s political mobilisation and participation. It is an opportunity for young creatives to demonstrate how their talent and skill can be utilised to convey passion by politicising issues and events.
Posters democratise art and therefore also have the potential to bring political messages to the masses. To celebrate the accessibility and power of this medium the academic conference will culminate with an exhibition of original A2 posters that address the theme of youth activism and resistance.
The exhibition space will provide a unique opportunity for discussion between creatives and the conference participants. It will give young artists and designers a platform from which they can demonstrate not only their creative capabilities but also their passion for and/or interest in contemporary political issues. The dialogue established at this event will demonstrate the importance of artistic acts and their political potential. The hope is that this will inspire further collaborations between academia, activism, art and design.
